Grants & Nonprofit Management
In 1977, I established an art education program in the Auburn area funded by a series of California Arts Council grants. To secure local support, I created a collaborative partnership between three school districts, the adult school, Placer County Office of Education, Auburn Area Recreation District and Placer Arts League. The initial grant was renewed over four years and served more than 300 students, ranging from kindergarteners to senior citizens.
After completing a program for professional certification in Nonprofit Management in 2002 I began working to help local non-profit organizations like the Boys & Girls Club, Placer Nature Center, Sutter Auburn Hospital Foundation, and the Salvation Army.

Some projects:
Awarded four Artist-in-Schools and Communities grants (1977-1982) from the California Arts Council, which funded a community art program for 300+ participants from local schools and the local recreation district. This included classes in painting for elementary, high school and adult school students, forming teams to complete eight murals. We also provided art experiences for developmentally disabled adults through the recreation district. Total funding exceeded $30,000.
- Wrote grant proposal and developed exhibit concepts to establish Placer Nature Center (1992). Participated in forming new Board of Directors (2002)
- As Executive Coordinator of the Placer County Fire Safe Alliance (2002-04), I wrote grant proposals and coordinated project reports from local Fire Safe Councils. We secured funding from the California Fire Safe Council to transport local, state and federal officials on a field trip to observe forestry and fuels reduction projects.
- While serving as a Director of Placer County Resource Conservation District (2003-06) I worked on the following grant proposals:
Community Fire Safe projects and USDA funding to improve forest health.
American Basin Working Landscape Strategy, working with private landowners of prime farmland located within Placer and Sutter Counties to protect agricultural activities and promote a working landscape that is beneficial to wildlife. Three-year project budget of $1.5 million.
California Department of Conservation Watershed Coordinator Grants, total budget exceeded $234,000.
Placer Hills Fire Protection District PRC 4291 Residential Inspections – service to approximately 700 homes in areas at high risk of wildfire danger, budget $7,000.
