Conservation & Fire Safe Communities
In November 2002, I was selected as the first Executive Coordinator of the Placer County Fire Safe Alliance, where I expanded the successful Placer County Chipper program and funded fire safety inspections for homeowners. We set a precedent in California, publishing Fire Safe information in regional telephone directories. We also published a booklet on Forestry and Sierra Nevada natural resource issues, which was distributed as a newspaper insert to over 50,000 households in Placer County.

Some projects:
Facilitated outreach and produced final report and website content for the “Colfax Fire Safe” project – American River Watershed Institute, Colfax, CA (2005-06)
Collaborated to produce three Placer County Farm and Barn Tours (2004-06)
Developed a Fire Management Assessment, identifying assets at risk and remediation strategies for Placer County Water Agency (2004)
Wrote grant proposal and developed exhibit concepts to establish Placer Nature Center (1992). Participated in forming new Board of Directors (2002)
Founding member of the American River Watershed Portal team, informing the public about watershed activities, resource management and forestry issues via websites serving the Sierra Nevada region (2003-05).
- Executive Coordinator of the Placer County Fire Safe Alliance (2002-04):
Concentrated on forestry and resource management issues, working with the commercial timber industry, federal and state agencies, Sierra Nevada region communities and business leaders.
Led in promoting conservation planning, watershed health, sustaining local agriculture and open space
Spearheaded educational and public outreach activities addressing Sierra watershed issues, forestry and wildfire concerns
Developed public information campaigns, facilitated meetings and events.
Wrote grant proposals and coordinated project reports.
Served as media contact, providing press releases and articles.
Set a precedent in California by publishing the first fire safe section in regional telephone directories (2003).
Produced a 24-page booklet featuring forestry, fire and conservation information that was distributed to more than 50,000 households in Placer County.
Secured funding from the California Fire Safe Council to transport local, state and federal officials on a field trip to observe forestry and fuels reduction projects.
Planned and conducted public events, presented educational programs to community groups, and was a featured speaker at state event marking Wildfire Awareness Week.
- Director of Placer County Resource Conservation District (2003-06):
Member, RCD Forestry Committee – pursued funding for projects to improve forest health.Served on the two Forestry Committees of the California Association of Resource Conservation Districts (CARCD) – helped update five-year strategic plan.
Consulted with legislators and staff at the CARCD “Day in the Capitol”, promoting active forest management to reduce the wildfire threat to communities, protect water quality and preserve natural ecosystems.
Elected Secretary-Treasurer of the CARCD (2005).
Testified to the California Senate Resources Subcommittee on behalf of the State Association in support of the Governor’s appointment of a new Director of the Department of Conservation (2006).
